Frequently asked questions

Everything about T1, T2, NCTS, guarantees and discharge.

What is a T1 transit document and when do I need one?

A T1 is a customs declaration under the Common Transit Convention used to move non-Union goods across CTC territory with duties and VAT suspended until the goods reach their final destination. You need a T1 when moving goods from the UK into the EU or between CTC countries without paying duties at each border.

What is a T2 transit document and how is it different from T1?

A T2 covers Union goods that need to transit through a non-Union territory (for example, UK or Switzerland) while retaining their EU status. T1 is for non-Union goods; T2 is for Union goods passing through non-Union land.

Does T1T2 Transit Movement handle NCTS submissions on my behalf?

Yes. We submit IE015 declarations to the New Computerised Transit System, monitor the IE029 response and the issued TAD, and confirm discharge at the Office of Destination.

Can you provide the transit guarantee, or do I need my own?

We provide Customs Comprehensive Guarantee coverage through PCSL's arrangements. You do not need your own guarantee for standard movements.

How fast can you issue a T1?

For repeat clients with a complete document pack, T1s are typically issued inside 2 hours. New clients take longer because of onboarding checks.

Do you cover the UK ↔ Türkiye corridor?

Yes, directly. Türkiye is a CTC country and we handle UK-origin T1/T2 movements bound for Türkiye, plus onward coordination with Turkish hauliers. Content is available in both English and Turkish.

What is the difference between Authorised Consignor and using an Office of Departure?

An Authorised Consignor can start a transit movement from their own premises without physically presenting the goods at an HMRC office. Without this status, goods must be shown at the Office of Departure before the TAD is released.

What happens if a T1 fails to discharge on time?

HMRC's CCTO (Central Community Transit Office) issues an enquiry and, if unresolved, a Right to be Heard notice — followed by liability for duty and VAT on the guarantee. We manage enquiry responses to prevent this.

Can you handle UK-initiated and EU-initiated transit?

Yes. We initiate from UK NCTS when departure is in the UK, or via EU member-state systems (including the French Delta T channel to bypass Inland Border Facilities) when departure is in the EU.

Do you serve hauliers directly, or only freight forwarders?

Both. Hauliers, freight forwarders and exporters can all use our service.

Is the TAD physical or electronic?

The TAD is printed with a barcode and carried with the goods, but it is generated electronically from the NCTS IE029 message. No stamping at the Office of Departure is required for AEO-authorised consignors.

Do I need an EORI number to use your service?

Yes, a GB EORI number is required to submit any declaration. If you do not have one, we can apply for it as part of onboarding.

What's the turnaround time for a T1 on a weekend?

We operate seven days a week. Weekend turnaround is comparable to weekdays for repeat clients, subject to document completeness.

Which ports and inland facilities do you cover?

We cover UK entry/exit at Dover, Folkestone, Harwich, Ashford IBF, Sevington, Heathrow and other approved locations. EU-side coverage varies by route.
